My name is Robert iannone - BEd, MHGI - and I am a member of the Human Givens Institute and a practicing Human Givens therapist.
The Human Givens Approach derives from the understanding that when our essential emotional needs are met and our innate mental resources are used correctly, we will be emotionally and mentally healthy.
After decades of research health and social psychologists identified the essential emotional needs that are crucial to our well-being. These include our needs for autonomy, a sense of control, security, connection, attention, achievement, status and meaning.
When these needs are met in whatever is a healthy balance for you, you will not experience depression, excess anxiety, anger issues, OCD, etc - nor will you feel compelled to self-medicate with any kind of addictive activity.
Proper use of our innate resources is essential. But stuff happens in life. For example, your home environment or workplace might be toxic. This alone can generate high emotional arousal levels and make it difficult to think rationally. As a result, you may find yourself locked in a vicious cycle of worrying and obsessive thinking that eventually leads to disruptive sleep patterns, feelings of demotivation and physical and mental exhaustion.
Luckily, proper information can be of immense help here. Simply being told, for example, that we often misuse our imagination can set us on the path to recovery. Knowing that it is a massively powerful, resource - an ally - that we can harness to problem solve creatively and objectively - rather than scare ourselves to death by imagining worst case scenarios - can initiate change in and of itself.
In the end, the brain always gives us what we focus on: we get better at football or piano with practice, and we get better at depression with practice, too!
Happily, there are evidence-based solutions!
If there is anything holding you back, blocking you from being the best version of yourself, don't hesitate to get in touch for a free 20 minute consultation so we can discuss whatever questions you might have.
People come to therapy to find a solution and move on. My aim, therefore, is to help you do just that - in as few sessions as possible:
I can help you with the following issues:
Trauma (PTSD)
Phobias
Depression
Anxiety
Anger issues
Addiction (drugs, alcohol, sex, etc)
Performance anxiety
Low self-esteem
Professional issues (feeling stuck, workaholism)
